How it all Started:

Back in 1996 I had just finished drama school and was keen to work in a mixed-ability context but wans't sure if that community existed in Wellington. With a little help from Welllington City Council's "Creative Communities" funding I started a pilot sceme to find out if there was a need for this type of drama work in the community. I contacted every disability support organisation I could think of and the result was a very exciting group of actors - I think all of us with some type of disability or another, be it physical, mental-health or intellectual. We were quite a mix and the series of drama workshops which followed, despite many challenges always kept a focus on 'ability' rather than 'disability' and the unique skills and characteristics each individual brought to the group.

What is ginger crunch?

ginger crunch is a mixed ability/ inclusive theatre company which has been working in Wellington since 2006. I'm hoping to use this site to record some of our work with photos and updates...here goes...
